What was I thinking? - Reflection

I'm sitting here thinking about the past three years of my life.  I started soaping three years ago and it really changed my life.  It turned from a hobby into an obsession of all things bath and body.  An addiction I'm sure many of you can relate to.  My first goal...find the perfect recipe.  It has taken me this long to find my "recipe".  That seems like a long time.  If somebody else were to use it, would they just think of it as another bar of soap?  Being a soap maker I can tell what each oil brings to a bar of soap or the different types of lather and bubbles.  My skin likes it and I truly enjoy using it in the shower.  I enjoy the lather and creaminess and it makes me happy.  Goal accomplished....three years later.

I decided to start a series called "What was I thinking?" to talk about my journey these past three years.  Making soap and other products has really fulfilled my need to experiment, to formulate, and to be a chemist.  My excessive experimenting has led to many failures (and some successes) and a collection of ingredients and objects.  Now that we are moving I'm faced with ingredients to go through and my ability to collect things and be reluctant to let go of them.  I think pack rat would be a cute way to describe me.  I want to change my ways and be more focused and I think in the end that will make me a happier person.  Not to mention I'll have less clutter.  So stayed tuned for more thoughts on "What was I thinking?"

    1. Thank you! I'm hoping that I can write what I want to say and learn something in the process.

  2. Love this! Can't wait to see upcoming posts on this. It's taken me a good three years to settle on a recipe too. Who knew when we started this, it was this complex and involved? So much more than slapping some batter into a mold!

Side note: I am in love with the bar of soap in this picture...wow.

    1. Thank you Lori! That has to be my favorite bar of soap yet. This is my final recipe. I made this on 1/6/12 and I actually took good notes. Yay! Scented with NGs new rosemary mint. This is me. Soaping is very complex and involved. It's science and art.

  3. I look forward to reading all your musings. It seems like tweaking is an endless "job" but what a fun one! It seems like I'm seeing Rosemary Mint soap everywhere these days (probably because I'm out of both oils) but your version is stunning! As is the photography....

    1. Thanks Amy! I'll always be tweaking, no doubt, but it's nice to be done sometimes too. LOL! This is NG's rosemary mint FO(the new one) and I love it. It's more minty than rosemary. As for my musings, I hope I can write what I want to say!

  4. It's been two years for me (soaping) and I feel like I am always, always changing things up. Gorgeous soap, btw! I too, am looking forward to the series! :)

  5. What a great idea to put in words your journey and your realisations. Of course you will find the right words too. If your final recipe is anything like that first bar of yours I was lucky enough to own, then it must be a wonderfully skin-loving one xx

  6. Haha, I so relate but I don't believe you on the 'final recipe' stance .. You're too much like me and will continue to tweak - probably forever! :P
