parsley salt bar photo op

It's been awhile since I posted anything.  Hubby and I took a vacation and I broke my camera by dropping it in a stream on one of our hikes!  Silly me needs a new camera now.  Wah!  It doesn't help that a month or so prior to this event hubby dropped his iPod nano in a lake after dumping his canoe.  He forgot he had it in his life jacket, so there it sat soaking wet for 2 days.  No hope there!  At least Apple give you a discount if you trade it in.  Anyway....we're even.

I managed to take some photos of a salt bar colored with parsley that I made about a month ago.  Parsley is one of my favorite natural colorants.  It's such a pretty green.  I also know how everyone loves soap porn so I thought I'd share my soaping day with you.  I'm not very artistic (the engineer in me), but I do try!  These are more utilitarian.

I was testing out a new mold and miscalculated my oil amount and ended up with small bars.  I love math and can't believe I did that!  *hangs head in shame*  The plus side is that they fit very nicely in my hand.  Also, these puppies last forever so it actually feels good to be able to use one up.  Here you go!

My 1 lb silicone soap mold stabilized with some wood.
Thank you to my dear friend Monet for giving me this tip!

Grinding up my parsley.  Trying to get to a powder form.

Parsley in my oil blend.

Giving the parsley a whirl with my stickblender.

We have trace!

In the mold.  It should be to the top.  oops!

Just prior to gelling.  I LOVE this color.  Should've stopped it here.

We have soap!

Cut into hand size pieces.

Extreme close up!

I also scented these with a lime blend so they are really out of this world.  Next time I think I will filter the oils through some cheesecloth just to get the big chunks of parsley out.  But overall I'm very happy with the natural color!

  3. Thanks! Parsley is a lot of fun. I just wish I knew a way to make it into a powder or I should buy powder. Is that possible?

  4. I've never heard of 'powdered' parsley for sale, and I'd guess that a mortar & pestal like you used is probably the best bet to get it fine .. What's wrong with larger pieces though?
