cuckoo for carrots

I was browsing through the baby food section at the grocery stores looking at ideas for my next soap. Everyone seems to have already tried baby food carrots so I thought I'd give it a go. Ingredients: carrots, water. Sounds good to me!

I really think I finally have a soap recipe I like so I wanted to do my final tweak. So far my ingredients are palm oil, olive oil, rice bran oil, palm kernel oil, and castor oil. I also put in some sodium lactate, white kaolin clay, and silk powder. I substituted 1/4 of the water with the carrots and stickblended them into my oils prior to adding the lye.

For the fragrance I chose something out of my comfort zone: bergamot and tarragon leaves from Nature's Garden. It's a very unique fragrance. Kind of masculine, but fresh, maybe herbal. It's so hard to put my finger on it. I used 0.8 oz ppo and thought it was going to throw me out of the room. Luckily it has mellowed and I really like it. If you've ever smelled tomato leaf fragrances it almost reminds me of that, maybe just the "leaves" part. Anyway...

I decided to try my new mold that I got from Happy DIY on Etsy. My dear friend Monet found it for me! It's working great as a 1 lb test batch mold. The bars are more of a guest size, but I was looking for something vertical as my vertical mold needs to be remade!

I decided to go with the crinkle cut and a little glitter on top. I know the glitter doesn't go and was actually looking for my poppy seeds (which were nowhere to be found). So what did I find today? Poppy seeds! The color was lighter prior to gel so if you're looking to go lighter, don't gel. I gelled these and actually removed them from the mold and cut them in about 12 hours. I'm very impatient. These kind of make my eyes hurt!

All in all I think it's a great way to utilize carrots for natural color!
